2025 Ren Faire
Dear Readers,
Ok everyone, I know I’m a bit slow in getting started and I apologize. This is my first blog and I’m still trying to find my niche and figure things out so bare with me. For now, I’m going to start by writing to you all about exploring my personal dreams and fantasies. Be they literal dreams or metaphoric ones.
For our first journey together let’s start by getting ready for the Venezia Renaissance Faire going on in Bonita Springs, Florida January 4-5 & 11-12. I know some people will think I’m ridiculous for this, but personally I LOVE these kinds of things and have been looking forward to it all year. If I could I would travel to/with all of them. Alas, finances do not permit me that particular dream nor does my skill set. (Although, I’ll post some of my own artwork on here at a later date and maybe you all can disagree with me.)
The reason I prefer fairs like this one over traditional county fairs is that they literally bring fantasy to life. While there is a bit of a historical re-enactment component to them, it is not a truly solid foundation, and a serious suspension of disbelief is needed to get into the spirit of things. If you go to one looking for pure historical accuracy like you would in a professional re-enactment setting like a historic village you will be greatly disappointed. In this world, while the setting may be historic, and there may be some elements like certain craftsmanship (i.e. blacksmithing, acrobatics, and musicians), the primary draw is the fantasy element. Everywhere one goes there are people in costumes, mythological creatures brought to life, and games meant to bring imagination into reality.
This year will be a pirate year for myself. I’m debating whether to be a typical pirate or a fairy pirate since I have some pretty epic customized wings I don’t often get a chance to wear. No worries, pictures will be provided along with the post about the day’s events after the fact. Are there any particular events or questions you all have about Ren Faires and the people who work for them? I would like this to be an interactive blog if possible, and will be checking back for any suggestions or questions that I can answer or find out the answer to.
